HEARING THE VOICE OF GOD IV: POSITIONED TO HEAR GOD'S VOICE
No born again Christian should struggle to hear God. However, should you find yourself struggle due to certain hindrances/cares of the world, you can pick up any of these 'hearing aids' and begin to hear God again.
- Hearing God happens when you are basking in the word.
- What you hear has to find it's confirmation in the word.
Many don't hear God because they rarely take time to read, feed and meditate upon the word. There are several styles of studying the Bible
- 📖 Systematic: this is where you could decide to read 3 chapters everyday and 5 chapters on Saturday so as to finish the Bible in 1 year.
- 📖 Key books: It is most recommended for new believers. It involves reading particular books to give you a rough idea of Christ and the Church. I personally usually recommend John, Acts, Romans, Ephesians and Psalms.
- 📖 Spiritual: This is where you open your Bible and ask the Holy Spirit, "Show me the word for today in the word". As you read on, that verse or text finds you and begins to speak to you.
- 📖 Curiosity: I came up with this one. It basically means: everytime you see or hear a verse mentioned or quoted in a book, sermon, article, poster etc you go to the Bible and read for yourself the verses above it and below it. This is the method that helped me grow the most.
When you read the word of God, read it with expectation. I like putting it this way, "Let the word read you even as you read it."
The word of God is a mirror, what you see in there is you! Because you are not just like God but are one with God. So receive His word in faith and see it, hear it twice by speaking it, rejoice over it then, act on it...
👂 Praying in the Spirit
A much debated topic yet I cannot begin to emphasize it's importance to a believer. There are many scriptures that prove that all Christians should speak in tongues. In future posts we will look at them but for now: Jude 1:20 shows us that praying in Spirit edifies/builds us up. Our ears need a certain building up for us to hear the voice of God. And this building up is a daily continuous process.👂Prayzing
This is a word coined from the words praying + praising.
Psalm 22:3 tells us that God inhabits the praises of his people.
A big part of praising God is giving thanks. A big part of prayer is also giving thanks: the first part and last part of the Lord's Prayer is a giving-of-praise to God. So when we pray, praise or prayze God, He is in our midst and we are able to hear Him better.
👂 Stillness
Even in the silence, He is speaking... God speaks in a still small voice and as we shall see in the next post, he confirms what He has said through peace of heart. However, we too ought to cultivate stillness and quietness of heart for us to hear him.
It is only when our mind and spirit are still before the Lord, we are open to hear His voice.
We saw in the previous post that: The reason why most people do not hear God is because they underestimate the diversity of ways in which He speaks. Sometimes we find ourselves underutilize something and in a sense, underestimate it. Because if we truly understood their power we would always look forward to using them.
The word of God says: If we are faithful with the little (Bible reading and prayzing😉), then you can be entrusted with much (mysteries and thunder😜). Which of these 4/5 hearing aids are you intending to dust off and begin to use more? You can share with us in the comments. Also, feel free to ask questions in the comments or direct message.
Thank you for checking in at God's Artwork today.
Come bleat with me next week, same place, same time😃... As we get equipped to hear the voice of God more clearly. Invite your loved ones by sharing this post with them.
